The Indian Branch of Pfizer Inc. has started experiments on new uses of sildenafil citrate, which is the main ingredient in their flagship product Viagra.  Testing has been started in four to five sites in the country. One such “other use” of sildenafil citrate is in Reviatio, which will be put out into the market by Pfizer by the month of June. Its basic content is sildenafil citrate. It is used as a remedy for pulmonary arterial tension which is an uncommon vascular disease. Before a drug company can make their product available, they have to register the drug with the nations drug authority, The Drug Controller General Of India. To verify the authenticity of the uses of the drug, the drug had to be tested one final time despite prior tests conducted on it worldwide. The DCGI requests the drug companies to show that the drug will work in the way they claim it does once again.

There have been a few doubts in the US drug authoritys approval of Revatio as at the same time the already approved drug Viagra was not to working with the efficiency according to which it had been approved. It was reported to affect vision impairment and effect heart patients. In India, in the state of Kerala a trio of doctors were put under fire for using Viagra to treat high blood pressure in the lungs otherwise known as PAH. It has a occurence of almost a hundred thousand people in both Europe and the US. Pfizer refuted these claims but had no solid proof to counteract what was said. They are being pressurised to prove it with a study.
